Terms of use
The terms governing this website, republishing rights, and the limits of what the Federation can do.
These terms describe how the site operates today. They have not yet been reviewed by counsel.
Using this site
By using this website you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
The site is provided by the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) for consumer information, education and complaint handling.
What COFEK is and is not
COFEK is an independent, self-funded, non-political apex consumer federation. It is not a government regulator and holds no statutory enforcement powers.
Nothing on this site is legal advice. Reporting, guides and summaries of legislation are provided for general information and may not reflect the most recent position. If your matter is time-sensitive or high-value, take your own legal advice.
Complaints
Filing a complaint is free and does not require membership. Submitting a complaint does not create a lawyer–client relationship and does not oblige the Federation to take the matter up.
The Federation screens complaints and prioritises matters with systemic reach — those likely to affect a class of consumers rather than a single account. It cannot guarantee any particular outcome, and it cannot compel a supplier to act.
Republishing and attribution
COFEK reporting may be republished free of charge with attribution to the Consumers Federation of Kenya and a link to the original article.
Figures, findings and quotations must not be altered, and partial findings must not be presented as the Federation's position. Photographs and documents credited to third parties are not covered by this permission — clear those with the rights holder.
What you send us
You must not submit anything unlawful, defamatory, or that you do not have the right to share. Do not send financial credentials, passwords or card numbers; the Federation will never ask for them.
By submitting a complaint you confirm the information is true to the best of your knowledge and authorise the Federation to take the matter up with the supplier and, where necessary, the relevant regulator.
Links and third parties
This site links to external websites and documents that the Federation does not control. Those links do not imply endorsement, and the Federation is not responsible for their content or availability.
Some archived articles embed images hosted by other publishers. Those remain the property of their owners.
Liability
The site is provided as-is. To the extent permitted by law, the Federation is not liable for loss arising from reliance on information published here, or from the site being unavailable.
Nothing in these terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited.
Needs review: The limitation of liability should be reviewed by counsel against Kenyan consumer and contract law before launch.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction.
