Terrorists in two vehicles struck Dusit Hotel on 14 Riverside drive, Westlands area of Nairobi around 3.30 pm 

Explosion and gunfire rent the air thereafter as police responded. The hotel is located next to a block of offices which had several hundreds of people at the time of attack.

Four cars have been destroyed by fire in the chaos that ensued. 

Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti were among those to arrive early at the terrifying scene.

Police, ambulances, security forces and firefighters are at the scene as the elite General Service 'Recce Squad' evacuate staff and patrons at the hotel.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti is currently at the scene as rescue teams including Red Cross try to avert the situation.

Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Abbas Gullet personally leading operations to assist those who need first aid.

At least one person has been confirmed dead. It is not clear whether the attackers have already left.
