POWER TO deliver: Education CS Amina Mohamed being congratulated by President Kenyatta on her appointment

We have received several representations, and we are persuaded they merit our intervention, as to have petitioned the Education Secretary Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed to consider reviewing the term one schools opening date.

We have requested that the Ministry reconsiders amending the opening day by moving it from January 2, 2019 to January 3, 2019.

This request is informed by the logistical nightmare of parents celebrating the new year, more often to after midnight of January 1, and then be expected to take their children to school at 8 am the following day.

Insisting that schools opening date remain January 2, 2019 will mean that heads of schools and teachers in far-flung stations will be denied the opportunity to join their families for the once-a-year special day

A day's difference can be recovered out of half-term and or any in any other way the Ministry deems fit.

We believe the convenience will not only be for parents and guardians but the pupils and students themselves.
