The Kenyan 6-bench on September 1, 2017 sent the world into shock with a historic and landmark ruling overturning August 8, 2017 re-election of President Kenyatta.

The country's Chief Justice Maraga in his summary ruling, supported by 4 Judges and dissented by 2, said "IEBC failed, neglected and refused to conduct the elections as required by law".

The highest court was responding to a petition by President Kenyatta's main challenger Mr Raila Odinga.

The ruling effectively puts Kenya back into an electioneering mood.

The Kenyan election was endorsed by among others Secretary John Kerry of the Carter Centre, the EAC, AU and the Commonwealth observer groups.
